So many of you have asked, “How can we help or be involved”?
We’re thrilled and grateful that you want to help! The Foundation has given close to $300,000 in college scholarships to 47 graduating seniors, whose essays are remarkable. We’ve been personally moved by some of their stories, including young adults in our community who go to school early because they don’t have electricity or heat, who don’t have funds to pay for their college textbooks or who are living with relatives because of difficulties in their immediate families. By supporting the Foundation, you directly support these deserving young people on their way to a bright future and to live their DREAM of going to college.
The KJO Foundation works with Children’s Advocacy of the 5th District Court of Cook County. We send a child from this organization to Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, Indiana who has been through an abusive situation. While there, they rebuild their confidence and to be a child again and just have fun.
During the holidays, the Foundation gives gifts to children at Maryville Academy. These children are wards of the state, these gifts let them know that they have not been forgotten and they are loved. These children are only looking for the basics. To see the “JOY” & smiles on their faces when they open that present they wanted and the color that they wanted is priceless beyond words.
These three pillars of the Foundation’s work in the past few years were something very dear to Kelli’s heart. Because of so many wonderful supporters, we’re able to continue to carry on her dreams of helping and giving opportunities to young adults who might not have had the chance to pursue their dream.
So what can you do? First, you can spread the word to join hundreds of others to come out to the RUN FOR KELLI on September 18th for the 1 mile walk or the 5k Run. This is a great event for all ages at all levels. In addition to the run or walk on the cross-country course around Lyons Township High School, participants will receive awards, take part in raffles for many prizes and enjoy food, drinks and music from a DJ.
Beyond participating yourself and telling friends, family and neighbors about the RUN FOR KELLI there many ways to support this great event that raise funds for the KJO Foundation. If you’re away from home, at college and not able to join us that day, take part in a run at your school. Start a team on our website and have people pledge funds to support your effort there. If you live nearby or if your family back home wants to get involved, you can set up a team of runners and walkers for Sept. 18. Those unable to attend can still support this important fundraiser by making a donation on the website. Setting up a team with pledges. Finally, we’re always looking for (and are grateful for) sponsors, so you can assist us in our outreach by being a sponsor or linking us to potential sponsors.
It’s your turn now to be creative on how you can help with the “RUN FOR KELLI” and, importantly, help give opportunities to young adults throughout the surrounding communities.
Thank you as we set a course with this RUN FOR KELLI for winning through sharing!
